Katrin Hagen graduated in Landscape Architecture from TU Hannover. From 1998 to 2004, she worked as a freelance collaborator in various landscape architecture offices in Vienna. Her projects covered diverse aspects, ranging from object planning and landscape planning concepts to garden conservation work. In the years 2004 to 2006, she engaged in freelance activities in Andalusia, Spain.
Since 2006, Katrin Hagen has been employed as a university assistant, involved in teaching and research activities at the Research Unit Landscape at TU Wien. In 2011, she completed her Ph.D. with a dissertation titled "Freiraum im Freiraum. Mikroklimatische Ansätze für die städtische Landschaftsarchitektur" (Open Space within Open Space: Microclimatic Approaches for Urban Landscape Architecture). Since 2019, she holds the position of Senior Scientist, with her primary focuses on climate change adaptation, green-blue infrastructure, and implementation processes.
