Susann Ahn

Susann Ahn is Professor of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning at TU Wien, where she co-leads the Research Unit of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning with Prof. Thomas E. Hauck.

She studied landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich and received her doctorate entitled “Cultural Laboratory Seoul: Emergence, Narrative, and Impact of Culturally Related Landscape Meanings” from ETH Zurich under the supervision of Prof. Christophe Girot. From 2011 to 2021, she held teaching and research positions at several universities, including the Technical University of Munich and ETH Zurich.

As landscape architect, urban planner, and certified mediator, she founded Ahn Landscape Mediation in 2013. Since 2024, she is additionally a partner at adribo Conflict Management - Alternative Dispute Resolution for Institutions, Businesses and Organisations. Her academic and professional practice combines landscape architecture and planning with approaches drawn from communication, mediation, conflict management, and collaborative governance.

Her work is situated at the intersection of process-oriented approaches, design-led research and qualitative methods. Her areas of interest include socio-ecological transformation, climate change adaptation, blue-green infrastructure, and convivial futures. She investigates how participatory, co-creative and conflict-sensitive approaches can contribute to integrated spatial strategies, and inclusive decision-making processes that foster new forms of coexistence between different actors. Her current research projects include “LANDLABS – Landscape Laboratories: Design Strategies for Sustainable and Beautiful Urban Landscapes in the Anthropocene” (EU Horizon Europe MSCA DN, 2025–2028), “CoCoNet: Co-creative Cohabitation Network” (EU DUT, 2025–2027), and “Infra-Care: Nurturing Infrastructures of Care by Centering Culture, Nature, and Solidarity in the Green Transition” (EU NEB, 2026–2029). Susann Ahn is author and editor of academic publications and regularly serves on scientific committees and juries for planning and design competitions.
