Arne Markuske is fascinated by urban regions as complex overlays of interacting systems and as habitats for humans, animals, and plants. Since April 2025, he has been working as a project assistant in the Doctoral Network LANDLABS at the Landscape Research Department, where he researches collaborative design strategies for beautiful and sustainable landscapes in the Anthropocene.
He is originally from Berlin and studied Urban and Regional Planning as well as Urban Design at TU Berlin and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. During his studies, he successfully participated in various student competitions. Together with Jonathan Hertling and Robert Ritzel, he received the Schinkel Award 2021 in the category of Urban Design. His thesis was recognized by the Association for Urban, Regional and State Planning (SRL).
After graduating, he worked for a state-owned housing company in Berlin as a consultant for neighborhood development and held positions as a lecturer and research associate in the fields of Urban Design and Urban Planning at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, TU Dortmund, and TU Munich, where he taught urban design studios. His teaching focuses on integrated neighborhood development and the design of public spaces. His professional interests further include the design of climate-adapted and pedestrian-friendly cities, sustainable logistics and mobility, the revitalization of large housing estates, and dealing with the architectural and urban heritage of modernism.
