Hartmut Troll graduated in landscape ecology and landscape design at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, worked for several years as an open space planner in Bremen and as a research assistant at the University of Applied Sciences Neubrandenburg, then completed his PhD at the University of Kassel. He works as a conservator in the Department Historic Gardens of the State Palace Administration of Baden-Württemberg since 2006 and is a honorary professor at the Institute for European Art History at the University of Heidelberg since 2011, was fellow at Dumbarton Oaks Washington D.C., Harvard University in 2017 and is engaged at the FOB Landscape since 2022.
He is a member of ICOMOS Austria, appointed to ISCCL, International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes, and monitor for the Schönbrunn World Heritage Site, as well as speaker for the Theory of Garden Monument Preservation working group in the German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture. He was Co-founder of Zoll+ publication for open space and landscape.
