LiLa4Green
Accompanying Living Lab for the Implementation of Green-Blue Infrastructure Measures in the Smart City Vienna
LiLa4Green focuses on the visibility and comprehensibility of the added value of potential green and blue interventions in the urban landscape, initiating discussions and mutual learning with various local stakeholders. The main objectives are a) collectively identifying existing challenges and highlighting the potential of green and blue design measures locally; b) literally showcasing possibilities for interventions in the urban landscape by effectively implementing common small-scale measures; and c) virtually visualizing potentials and alternatives through an A/R (Augmented Reality) tool to facilitate inclusive participation in the early planning stages and raise awareness of the topic. To achieve these goals, diverse methods such as potential analyses, design studios, climate measurements, and simulations were employed, accompanied by an ongoing Living Lab process on-site.
Throughout LiLa4Green, various barriers, limitations, but also potentials for a more climate-resilient design of existing urban structures became evident. Overall, the project succeeded in initiating a shift towards climate resilience in one of the most densely built areas of Vienna. Three key elements proved crucial: 1) finding solutions that fit the local environment and defining concrete measures, 2) raising awareness and involving local networks, stakeholders, and neighbors, and 3) embedding measures and demonstrations into a continuous process.
