Freiraum und Mikroklima - Grundlagen für klimasensitive Planung in der Seestadt Aspern
The main focus of the research project ‘Open Space and Microclimate’ is on the climatic as- pects of urban open space, and thereby on their significant overall contribution to the quality of life in urban areas. In this context there is a close interrelationship between the prevailing climatic conditions, the form of the building (in particular the treatment of the facades) and the design of individual open spaces. Together, these have a direct influence on both the sense of ‘thermal well-being’ of the open space users, as well as on the energy efficiency of adjoing buildings.
This report takes the form of an overall introduction into the subject matter and makes refer- ence to the various work packages. The three project partners are referred to in the report as follows: AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology); TUW-AW (Department of Building Physics and Building Ecology at the Institute of Architectural Sciences); and TUW-UDL (Department of Landscape Architecture at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture), both of Vienna University of Technology (TUW).
