Modules
The module involves an in-depth examination of the design aspects of open space planning, both in a scientific-theoretical discourse and through various practical exercises. The module comprises diverse teaching formats and subjects.
Content
The module deals with developmental trends in urban and landscape areas. The focus is on integrated urban and landscape planning, combining theory-driven and practice-oriented design projects, excursions, lecture exercises, and seminars. Further specialization is possible through a theoretical and practical exploration of a specific thematic focus in urban and landscape areas (e.g., digitization, affordable housing, education, health...). Collaborations between the Architecture and Urban Planning disciplines within the module are sought.
Learning Outcomes
The goal of this elective module is to enable students to independently and critically position themselves regarding current urban and landscape planning issues, as well as projects and tools for urban and municipal transformation and intervention. Upon successful completion of the module, students will gain an understanding of process-oriented interventions, implementation strategies, and the interaction between formal and informal planning instruments and strategies.
Features
ECTS credits: 18 (9 ECTS core subject, 9 ECTS supplementary subjects)
Semester: Regular semester: Summer Semester (SS), but generally possible in Winter Semester (WS) as well.
Content
A contemporary understanding of planning does not only reduce architecture to the built object but aims to comprehend and develop spatial structures in both the landscape and urban contexts as a whole. Construction and open space form a unity in this approach. The courses focus on developing and promoting a holistic understanding of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning, addressing both landscape theory questions and specific design tasks.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to analyze and evaluate planning-relevant connections between built structures and their spatial integration in the urban and landscape context as a whole. The in-depth exploration of various open space planning contents helps develop analytical, methodological, and technical skills in dealing with open space.
