Tactical Urbanism and Placemaking for Sustainable Climate Change Adaptation in Alsergrund
In times of climate change and health crises, short-term, temporary transformations of public spaces through tactical urbanism become increasingly important. They make the added value of significant changes directly tangible and enhance awareness and acceptance among the population, administration, and politics. Their special potential lies in promoting learning processes and initiating and accelerating a quick, sustainable transformation.
In the summer semester of 2024, this will be implemented within the framework of a co-creative design and planning process using the example of Galileigasse in the 9th district of Vienna. The focus is on interdisciplinary collaboration between master's students in architecture and spatial planning with local stakeholders, developing a concept, and the actual 1:1 implementation as part of a construction workshop. An intensive semester awaits us that has the potential to truly make a difference!
The project is a core component of the elective module 3: City and Landscape and is linked with the supplementary courses Excursion (260.735 EX) and Planning Practical Discourse (260.855 VU). As an additional specialization, the Seminar City and Landscape in Climate Change (260.716 SE) takes place. With this offering of 4 courses, there is an optimal opportunity to attend the entire elective module, totaling 18 ECTS in one semester, and thus, establish a thematic focus in the master's program.
