Animal Spaces & Beastly Places Neuperlach
Designing at FOB Landscape imparts open-space planning and urban design practices that are derived from site-specific analysis and stakeholder involvement.
As part of the New European Bauhaus project NEBourhoods Neuperlach, we will be designing spaces for cohabitation in the 1967-built Munich district of Neuperlach. In this context, we will work analytically with the pair of terms coined by geographers Philo and Wilbert: "animal spaces" (spaces that humans allocate to animals, such as zoos, stables, pastures, wilderness) and "beastly places" (locations actually used by animals). We will apply the planning method called Animal-Aided Design. The goal of the project is to identify locations in the existing city that allow for appropriation by animals. The aim is to develop open-space planning and urban design concepts and scenarios for potential cohabitation of humans and non-human animals. In the course of this project, we will collaborate with local stakeholders from civil society and partners from the NEBourhoods research project. The idea is to implement the results of the design work in the following year.
