On The Fly - Fischamend
"On the Fly Fischamend" is a collaborative project between the municipality of Fischamend and the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the Vienna University of Technology. The goal of this collaboration was to develop various open space concepts for the municipality.
The fundamental intention of all developed concepts was to enhance the quality of the public space. The current situation in Fischamend shows that public space is often reduced to its function as a thoroughfare. In the context of this project, spatial qualities were highlighted based on the existing open space situation, presenting them in a way that the public space could become a living and recreational area for the growing community in the future.
At the beginning of the project, the students collected initial impressions in the municipality and conducted usage analyses. After an initial revision of the analysis work, the TU Wien team traveled to Vorarlberg to gather ideas and inspiration from pioneering communities in the field of open space planning. Subsequently, based on the analysis and collected impressions, the design concepts and detailed measures for Fischamend were developed step by step.
The "On the Fly Fischamend" project yielded a wide range of different approaches and concrete designs. Particularly noteworthy is that Fischamend possesses many qualities that can be built upon. Over time and with the corresponding political will to promote open space development, this municipality could serve as a model example.
