A position as a university assistant is to be filled at the Institute of Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Design, Research Group Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning, presumably starting in June 2026 (30 hours per week, expected to be limited to 4 years), with the following responsibilities.
Your responsibilities:
Active participation in an innovative research area focusing on the design and transformation of hybrid urban and natural spaces in the context of convivial urban development, with particular emphasis on cohabitation and multispecies approaches, as well as co-creative and participatory planning and research processes
Collaboration on research projects at the interface of climate-sensitive urban development, landscape architecture and biodiversity research, with a focus on human-animal relationships, animal-aided design and co-productive forms of knowledge and spatial development
Contributing to research projects in the fields of participation, co-creation and care in landscape architecture and planning, with a focus on conflict-resolving and innovative planning formats and their methodological development within the context of a convivial practice
Supporting and delivering teaching activities as part of a team, as well as independently designing, organising and supervising study projects at Bachelor’s and Master’s level (Architecture and Spatial Planning), in particular by incorporating design-based, co-creative and participatory teaching formats
Writing a dissertation within the thematic context of the research area and deepening one’s own academic and design-related skills
Publication work (academic publications, contributions to research reports, lecture notes and teaching materials)
Assistance in organising conferences, workshops and academic events, as well as active participation in international discourse
Participation in committees and commissions at departmental and faculty level
Carrying out organisational and administrative tasks in research and teaching operations
Supervision of courses (including Fundamentals of Design) and coordination of students and tutors
Your profile:
A relevant master’s or diploma degree in landscape architecture, urban planning, architecture, urban design, spatial planning or a related field
In-depth knowledge of landscape architecture and/or landscape planning. Ideally, professional experience or involvement in design, planning and implementation projects in landscape architecture and landscape planning
Interest in, and ideally initial experience with, multi-species approaches and human-animal relationships in urban spaces
Interest in co-creative and participatory processes in planning and research, ideally complemented by initial practical experience
Interest in theoretical and practical issues relating to convivial urban and landscape development
Proficiency in relevant visualisation and planning tools (e.g. GIS, CAD, Adobe Suite)
Ability to convey teaching content and an interest in working with students; prior teaching experience is an advantage
Interest in inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration, as well as strong interpersonal skills (teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, initiative and innovation)
An independent, structured and analytical approach to work, as well as strong organisational skills
Excellent written and spoken German and English
