At the Institute of Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Design, in the Research Unit for Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning, a position as University Assistant (Pre-Doc) is available, starting approximately in March 2024 (30 hours per week, fixed-term for approximately 4 years), with the following responsibilities:
Your Responsibilities:
• Active participation in an innovative research unit that views urbanization as a profound, multidimensional, eco-social process, extending far beyond city construction and rural urbanization. (See: landscape-tuwien.at)
• Research focus: The applicant should propose a dissertation project aligned with the unit’s research agenda in one of the following areas:
• Urban biodiversity, ecological processes, and spatial planning/design
• Co-creation in urban planning or in relation to the urbanization of rural areas
• Climate-sensitive open space development
• Modeling and simulation methods related to these topics
• Supporting and conducting teaching activities within a team and independently, including:
• Designing and coordinating lecture series
• Organizing and supervising student projects (Bachelor’s and Master’s level in Urban Planning and Architecture)
• Exam grading, seminar and excursion preparation
• Writing a dissertation and deepening one’s scientific expertise
• Supporting research projects (e.g., literature review, interviews)
• Academic publishing (scientific publications, scripts, editing)
• Organizing conferences and participating in scientific events
• Engagement in committees, commissions, and faculty-level responsibilities
• Independent administrative and organizational tasks, evaluation measures, and general support of the research field, including committee work
• Coordination of students and tutors
Your Profile:
• Completed Master’s or Diploma degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Planning and Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, or an equivalent university degree from Austria or abroad
• In-depth knowledge of urban planning, landscape planning, and regional planning, as well as strong academic research skills
• Familiarity with Austrian and/or European planning systems and institutions, particularly in relation to landscape and open space planning
• Work experience or participation in planning and/or research projects; experience and interest in spatial design and planning questions
• Teaching skills and the ability to convey knowledge effectively; prior experience in education is an advantage
• Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., GIS, CAD, etc.)
• Open-mindedness and flexibility
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently, analytically, and in a structured manner
• Goal-oriented mindset and strong time management skills
• Excellent social skills (teamwork, motivation, problem-solving abilities, innovation, and initiative)
• Excellent proficiency in English and German
