Research Project (DUT) CoCoNet
Kick-Off in Vienna
CoCoNet
Co-creative Cohabitation Network
The EU project CoCoNet was launched in January as part of the Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) program. The project aims to provide a methodology for identifying synergies between sustainable mobility, climate adaptation, and biodiversity, and to guide the co-creation of a sustainable and inclusive transformation of the urban streetscape. The focus lies on transforming urban street environments at the neighborhood level, with an emphasis on combining mobility measures with nature-based solutions (NbS). Integrated spatial modeling of mobility, acoustics, climate, and ecological connectivity is used to reveal spatial potentials.
The project goes beyond existing studies on urban biodiversity by making socio-ecological aspects and the cohabitation of humans and other organisms a central element of the urban planning process.
At the end of March, the first in-person project meeting took place in Vienna. The Landscape Research Department hosted project partners from ETH Zurich, TU Munich, and transport planning. Together, they engaged in an intensive discussion on the first phase, General Requirements and Desired Futures, which will be developed by autumn in the four partner cities through co-creative formats with stakeholders from public administration and local initiatives as the foundation of the project.
