Making Greenways
Typological Transposition between Vienna and Seoul.
Cities have changed dramatically over the centuries due to geopolitical developments and innovations. In light of the uncertainties of climate change, cities must adapt to remain livable, safe, and attractive.
Inspired by Seoul, this design studio seeks to transfer linear greenway typologies to Vienna, resulting in a "typological transposition." The visions will contribute to enhancing urban landscapes by creating community-oriented, climatically and aesthetically appealing open spaces that can position blue-green infrastructures as central components in the city. This approach not only promotes a more pleasant urban climate but also improves the quality of life for both human and non-human existence.
In parallel with the design development, digital modeling methods will be taught. The integrated process of design and modeling has a triple benefit. The process enables a site-specific approach by using high-resolution 3D point cloud models to take advantage of existing features. The process relies on a combination of design and analysis methods to find adaptive solutions for possible futures. The studio will bridge creativity, technology, and science by exploring novel ways to reshape urban landscapes in the Austrian and Korean context.
